Another fun, but long, day at GDC 2004. I've spent the majority of my days in lectures and roundtables, and only done a little looking about the expo floor. Currently, the 'Booth Crawl' is underway where expo booths bribe people to check out their area with free beer. I've already got more free t-shirts than I have any use for and don't drink, so I'm not really on the crawl for more product swag and don't have a strong desire to walk the expo floor at the moment. With the Xbox party going on tonight, maybe I should head back to the hotel for a nap.

I did listen to John Carmack do his first ever speech at GDC today. While he is definitely not a practiced public speaker or had anything really surprising to say, it was interesting to hear his perspective on the industry trends around technology, team development size and costs, indie game development and funding, and interesting unexplored areas of development. It is obvious that id has grown into a 'real' company doing big projects that Carmack no longer controls hands-on and he is a little unnerved about it...

Also attended the IGDA annual meeting. In previous years of attending GDC I had skipped it, and while it was interesting to see the IGDA board in-person, most everything they talked about was covered in the annual report...
