I know I should have taken a left turn at Albuquerque
We have returned from our trip to the Southwest to find that actually Seattle is warmer than Santa Fe right now. Friday
cuddlyeconomist, Professor X, and I flew to Denver. We rented a car and drove down to Santa Fe--a 6 hour drive was better than a 7 hour layover in Denver. The next day we picked Rhys up in Albuquerque. Saturday we visited with
appleang.
Chase was sick starting early last week--his first real fever--, but he started to recover before we left and is doing pretty well a week later. He was a trooper putting up with so much time in the car seat, but he is thrilled to be back home to his floor.
Some amusing kiddo antics during various drives including an ad-lib for a TV infomercial selling home Greek sacrificial alter kits including sheep and "sheep-grade" duct tape; and humorous mispronunciation of "Pablo pottery".
Less amusing was getting pulled over twice by the police: Once in Colorado by a string of K9 units looking for probably drug-runners who took an interest in our lack of lights. It was a rental, and we managed to turn off everything but the headlights somehow. They let us go as clearly confused tourists. The second was going a bit too fast in NM since I thought we were on a freeway, but the police man there also took pity on us as every time he tried to say something the baby cried louder--Chase had hit his limit on car seat time and we still had about an hour's drive ahead of us to get back to our hotel.
- Being appalled by the price of blankets which are actually priced as artwork. Check.
- A bit oppressed by the Santa Fe building code requiring everything look like adobe. Check.
- See plenty of Darth Vader's pottery. Check.
- Explore the Explora. Check.
- Visit the shrine Albuquerque is maintaining in memory of when Microsoft was there. Check.
- Were asked at least twice a day "red or green". Check
