Homeward Bound
I'm all packed, my flight is (so far) on time, and my parents left Todd's place this morning. All-in-all, it's been a nice Christmas Holiday with my family. My brother and I will be taking a few packages to Union Square and the have lunch before I begin my journey to the Newark Airport.
Christmas day we spent the entire day hanging out at my brother's place, watched a few movies, had a nice dinner, and generally did not much. I did end up with one package to mail home, but was otherwise mostly successful in encouraging minimal gift giving--it helped that my parents had already sent a large package directly to my place last week. We considered going out to see a film, but there's really not much playing and NYC has no concept of 'matinee pricing'.
Yesterday my mother and brother wanted to shop (the day after Christmas!?!), so I decided to find something else to do. After breakfast and checking out my brother's new apartment he's trying to buy, I headed off to the Met for a few hours and then wandered Central Park for a half-hour or so. The crowds were a bit much, but I really liked the statuary garden, the Chinese Scholar's garden, the Temple of Dendur, and the Arms & Armor displays. Those European Painters seemed to be obsessed with naked babies, bare breasts, and some sickly looking dude with bleeding hands, feet, a terrible laceration in his side so they weren't my favorite. I did really like a number of the images of the goddess Diana (aka Artmeis), but my preference has always been for Greek mythology.
About the only 'top 10 tourist things to do while in NYC' I've not done between this and the previous visit in August would be the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty. I'm not into heights, so I don't really feel like doing either of those things.
