[livejournal.com profile] datavore and [livejournal.com profile] loree's party last night was a fun and social time. I didn't end up staying terribly late, leaving around 1am, because I got up at a reasonable hour Friday morning to get my car into the shop and get to work. Most of the usual suspects were present, although I missed seeing a few people who usually attend the Nerdvana parties...

I was hoping to swing brunch with [livejournal.com profile] loree and the other overnight guests this morning, but apparently they were too hung-over and hungry/whining about bloodsugar to remember my mentioning it. No biggie I suppose because I had a Texas-Ex's BBQ event to attend this afternoon. Salt Lick is not the best BBQ in Texas, but it is definitely a taste of home and the Alumni club has it flown in for the event.

The last UT BBQ I attended was when I first moved out here in 2001. Supposedly they had a few others since but I apparently missed the mailing or wasn't in town for them. As with most of these Alumni things, it was a mix of newly relocated grads and older folks most of whom take the whole "Texas football religion" way too damn seriously for my taste.

Meet a pair of French twins both with advanced degrees in Mechanical Engineering from UT. One moved up here last year to work for Phillips, the other just finished her PhD and is looking for work. I had that "I never believe the stories I read in your magazine until..." line running through the back of my head, but then I do have a weakness for geek girls. Otherwise, a pretty low-key event.

I baked some gingersnaps for the BBQ, but most people were focused on the meat and left most of the deserts behind. So, I'll instead I'll be feeding them to my gamers tonight for a Living Force game and in the morning for a Living Kingdoms of Kalimar game.
